A portion of Michael Jordan's fortune has been donated to the most disadvantaged members of his community. 

Jordan and his family opened the first of two Charlotte medical clinics on Thursday.

Michael Jordan donated $7 million to Novant Health, which will operate the clinic in West Charlotte. 

Money isn't the issue for me. It's making an impact in a community that will impact Charlotte in the future," said Jordan.

Jordan also vowed to do more, saying "this is just the beginning of a battle to reach as many people as possible."

Local resident Sharelle Blake, one of the clinic's first patients, said many residents lack health insurance. 

"There are children here who lack insurance and can't afford immunizations so they can attend school."

Norvant Health's Chief Consumer Officer, Jesse Cureton, told The Associated Press the area needs triple the amount of primary care today. 

With his earnings on the court and various business dealings, Jordan has amassed nearly $2 billion in net worth.

Jordan Brand operates as a subsidiary of Nike, which owns him.th Pepsi-owned Gatorade and Hanes.
