Stephen White, 48, a former NFL player and sports writer, has passed away.

On Twitter, Tyoka Johnson, White's former Tampa Bay teammate, broke the news.

I send my condolences to his wife, children, family, and friends. I will always 

remember the memories, the fun, the conversations we shared." he wrote.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected White in the sixth round of the 1996 NFL Draft. 

In 2002, he retired from the New York Jets. 11.5 sacks and 119 tackles on his NFL career.

The Tennessee Volunteers were his college team. He is originally from Memphis.

Since joining SB Nation in 2013, White has covered the NFL for the publication.
